Remove AI detection metadata before upload

Platforms scan uploads for C2PA Content Credentials and XMP/IPTC AI fields when deciding whether to show "Made with AI" or "AI Info." That is separate from stripping GPS for privacy — you may need both. Inspect files with the EXIF reader, then download a cleaned copy here. Metadata removal does not change pixels and cannot remove invisible pixel watermarks (for example SynthID). Outcomes vary by platform.

Why remove image metadata?

Protect your location

Smartphone photos contain GPS coordinates that reveal exactly where you were. Remove this data to prevent location tracking.

Hide device information

EXIF reveals camera model, phone type, and software. Stripping metadata prevents others from identifying your devices.

Remove AI provenance

Some generators embed C2PA metadata identifying AI-generated images. This tool can strip that marker from the file.

What metadata gets removed?

The remover clears all embedded metadata ExifTool can strip: EXIF (camera settings, GPS, timestamps), IPTC (copyright, captions, keywords), XMP (extended properties, licensing), and C2PA content provenance.

After processing, the download contains pixel data — no hidden information about where, when, how, or by whom the photo was taken. Visual quality is preserved.

This matters on forums, marketplaces, dating apps, or any public platform where location or device information is a risk. Format-specific caveat: PNG often has little EXIF; JPEG from a phone is the typical high-risk file.

If you need to keep copyright but drop GPS only, use the EXIF editor instead of a full wipe.

Delete EXIF data online: two side effects to expect

A full strip removes the Orientation tag too. Phones often store the pixels sideways and rely on that tag to display the photo upright, so a cleaned file can open rotated by 90 degrees. Rotate it once in any image editor and save; the rotation then lives in the pixels.

The ICC color profile goes with everything else. On sRGB photos nothing changes. On iPhone photos shot in Display P3, colors can look slightly duller in color-managed apps. If that matters, the guide to removing metadata has an ExifTool command that keeps the profile.
